Engage Your Creativity. Delivered by GSSM’s Center for Science Education & Outreach, ENGAGE is designed to impact students through early interest and awareness of STEM studies. Early experiences with STEM are shown to help build students’ confidence with new technologies.

Get ready to dive into the exciting world of game design! In this course, you will learn Lua, a dynamic programming language like Python, and bring your game ideas to life on the virtual game platform PICO-8. Are you ready to unleash your creativity and start building your very own games? Let's embark on this thrilling journey together!

ENGAGE is a multiple session in person program in which students will use critical thinking skills and deductive reasoning to explore the science and technology behind real world problems as they work through mini challenges while learning skills used to create their own project.

WHEN: Five Mondays, September 23 - October 21, 2024 
TIME: 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM 
LOCATION: 401 Railroad Ave, Hartsville, SC 29550 
WHO: 6th - 8th grade students 
COST: A student’s time and willingness to learn new things!

Space is limited to 20 students per class. ENGAGE will be held on the GSSM Campus. ENGAGE students, their families, and all visitors are expected to follow the school's COVID-19 safety protocols. For more information regarding GSSM’s protocols, click here or call the Outreach Center 843-383-3958. 

NOTE: To successfully complete the ENGAGE experience, attendance at all five sessions is required. Before registering, check your calendar to ensure there aren’t any schedule conflicts.

The deadline to register is August 30, 2024, or until the program is full.

Step 1

Complete the Student Program Registration form and online student documents using the link provided. Once registration is electronically submitted, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you have provided. The completed registration will be reviewed for enrollment.

Step 2

Add @governors.school to your safe senders list. Acceptance notifications with final course schedules will be sent via email with the next steps. If you do not receive notification of acceptance and/or a course schedule one week before class starts, contact our Outreach Center at 843-383-3958.
