Announcing the Patz Fowle Creative Courage Scholarship

November 15, 2021

HARTSVILLE – GSSM is honored to announce the Patz Fowle Creative Courage Scholarship, created in memory of Ms. Patz Fowle.

Ms. Patz was GSSM’s arts pioneer. She started teaching Art in the Interim in 1999 and built the school’s visual arts program from the ground up. By 2019, she was teaching 4 classes in the dedicated Open Arts Studio, which was recently named the Patz Fowle Visual Arts Studio in her honor.

Since the art program’s inception, artwork has lined the halls of the school, and many students who had no previous passion for the arts have received prestigious awards for their work. Ms. Patz believed that creativity was intrinsic in everyone, and GSSM will continue to fulfill her vision with this scholarship.

The Patz Fowle Creative Courage Scholarship will award $500 annually to a graduating senior who has nurtured and/or discovered the artist within during their time at GSSM and who exemplifies the characteristics that GSSM constantly celebrates about Ms. Patz: passion, positivity, presence, and love. GSSM will award the first Patz Fowle Creative Courage Scholarship in May 2022.
