Three rising seniors from the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) recently completed the journey of a lifetime. The students─ Griffin Gray Hartmann of Seneca, Mason Youngblood of Hartsville and Nicole Beraho of Irmo─ spent their summer working as interns at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg as part of GSSM's Research Exchange Scholars Program.

Four Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) 2010 graduates have been named Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship recipients by the South Carolina Department of Education. They join 102 students from across the state in earning the award, which promotes academic excellence using federal funds.

But the 57 rising seniors at the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) have donned white coats and are spending six weeks working alongside professional scientists in research and development labs across South Carolina.
