Randy La Cross

Senior Vice President for Outreach & Global Initiatives

Bio

Randy La Cross has been serving as the Senior Vice President for Outreach & Global Initiatives since 2005. He is responsible for leading a team of STEM educators in the development of educational experiences for the state's students and teachers, as well as for the oversight of the Summer Program for Research Interns (SPRI). La Cross joined GSSM in 1998, as a curriculum development specialist, and in 2000, became curriculum coordinator in the school's Outreach Center. During his 20 plus years as a science educator in South Carolina, La Cross has had the opportunity to develop curricula, create science education outreach programs, serve on numerous state and national committees, serve as a science teacher consultant, conduct presentations at state and national science conferences, and teach at a variety of educational levels. He has a passion for developing STEM educational experiences that are academically challenging, relevant, interactive, and a lot of fun! 

Prior to joining GSSM, La Cross taught high school science in Darlington County, where he was also an assistant varsity football coach and a head girls’ varsity track and field coach. He previously also taught science in Kershaw County and spent several years at Francis Marion University as a science education instructor. In 2008, La Cross was awarded the Lawrence S. Swails Outstanding Alumni Award by the Biology Department at Francis Marion University for the contributions he has made to STEM education.
